I am now finalising my preparations for my presentation at the University in two weeks. I have almost finished my written hand-in. However, I still am working on my powerpoint presentation. Tomorrow I will be presenting the powerpoint to members of my faculty.

I spent some time with Greg today looking at my methodology and interesting points came up. At the moment, my supervisers Anne and Jacqui are reviewing the pre and post interview questions that I have produced for both students and teachers. I am going to call Dr Andrew Martin tomorrow and ask him whether I would be able to use his Engagement Index Survey. However, instead of asking the students to complete this will all their studies in mind, I would like students to complete this with their learning in Mathematics in mind.

This week, I will be sending the University’s Human Ethics Department an updated application. My initial application was accepted, pending on some suggestions that were put forward. At the moment, I would like the SDL experiences to commence with the second topic next term (Decimals). This will depend on whether the changes to the Human Ethics application are accepted.

Self Directed Learning in Mathematics in a one to one laptop school

With the rapidly changing world of technology, and the need for people to be independent thinkers and learners in society, will this better prepare the students for a successful mathematical career, as well as a better preparation for life?
